..."And Then She Wept" Contempoprary Still-Life Oil paintings by Paula peacock

"...And Then She Wept"
by Paula Peacock
Oil on Eucalyptus on Birch
18" x 24"
I did this painting after being contacted by a non-profit who wanted an image for their website representing the fight against domestic abuse against women and children. "..And Then She Wept" brings awareness to women being abused physically, emotionally, sexually, mentally with the violence spreading to the children. She is trapped in a relationship knowing that it hurts to stay in & would hurt to get out of. She is broken in mind, body, & spirit & has grown too weak to protect her children.
The painting was on their website for many years. If you know of someone in such a relationship don't stand idly by. Contact the authorities and put the situation on their radar. For purchasing info contact Paula HERE. See more of my work HERE

'If it Walks Like a Duck...' Contemporary Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

'If it Walks Like a Duck...'
by Paula Peacock
12" x 24"
Oil on Canvas

Edgar Degas said; "A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, some fantasy. When you always make your meaning perfectly clear, you end up boring people." I like it when I manage to pique someones' interest in a painting, to keep them standing in front of it, thinking, cogitating on its meaning, wondering "What the heck was this artist thinking?" I don't try to make it my goal. I'm simply painting my life journey. Painting is a state of being and self-discovery. A painter paints what she is.

'Nest II (Reality)' Narrative Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

Nest II (Reality)
12" x 16"
Oil on Linen
From the 'Altered Soul' Series
(The Art of Grief)
Generated after the death of my son.

This is no longer the fantasy of a warm and cozy home. This has become my reality. The pear on the right is cracked and broken open, its' essence is gone. What is left is an empty shell, an encasing, a vessel that is no longer needed. Still in the home on this plane, my daughter and feel shattered, irreversibly changed, never to be the same again.

"If you ask me what I came to do I this world, I, an artist, will answer you:
I am here to live out loud"
Emile Zola

'Unbound' Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

'Unbound'
Oil on Linen
16" x 20"
by Paula Peacock

I don’t know what happened to make life bearable again. But, I started noticing a difference after completing this painting. The sky is a bit brighter as the sun rises, symbolic of a new day, with the heavy weight of darkness being pushed aside. A beautiful blue butterfly releases the restraints of grief and anger, allowing me the ability to breathe again and to look forward to what the day may bring.

"The Key to Me" Oil Paintings by Paula Peacock

'The Key to Me'
Oil on Linen
16" x 20"
by Paula Peacock

The "inner pear" shows an attempt to discard the dark cloak of constant depression (the outer layer) which serves as an armor and a disguise to fool, not only others, but myself as well. The inner pear tries to emerge completely out, to be what she once was, but continues holding on to her protective tough skin not quite ready to bravely step out and be happy without feeling guilt.
