Equine Painting “Salt River Gals” by Painter of the American West Nancee Jean Busse

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

When I decided to paint this piece I knew the challenge that was ahead of me. Those dappled shadows! And yes, they kicked my ass! I once heard an artist say that 95% of some paintings came off the brush with ease and the last 5% took forever. This was one of those paintings for me. And yet, when it was finished to my satisfaction, I felt that I had communicated the moment of comfort and peace felt by these wild horses, deep in the shade of the trees along the Salt River in Arizona.

Contemporary Colorado Landscape Painting, Fine Art Oil Painting “Elk Country” by Colorado Contemporary Fine Artist Jody Ahrens

Elk are noisy creatures clomping through the trees, breaking branches, snorting, barking, ‘glunking … we hear them, so we know they are out there … somewhere. Probably spying on us.

"Coalescence" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

I enjoy the late part of the day, just before dusk, especially when viewing anything relating to water (reservoir, lake, river, stream, ocean).  The way the light of the sky bounces off the water is especially intriguing and putting all of the hue together makes for a great challenge.  I hope I've met it in the painting.

"Coalescence", 18"x24" palette knife oil painting on canvas panel, Paypal accepted, contact me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

"Just Sailing Along" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

We have just returned from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and please keep in mind, I am not used to seeing so much water around us!  We are happily landlocked in northern Colorado but being near the H2O is quite refreshing and enjoyed our time there.  I painted this painting on glass some time ago and thought I'd show it to you here, in honor of all the blues that we saw while on vacation!  Best seen in person, of course, as are most paintings on glass.

"Just Sailing Along", 10.25"x17.5" measured edge to edge glass, framed as shown, write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"As the Sun Slips Behind the Loire River" by Karla Nolan, unframed palette knife oil painting

A number of years ago my husband and I traveled through the Loire Valley to visit Amboise.  We settled in to our tiny room, rested from the ordeals of the car travel, and prepared to dine.  As we were walking towards our restaurant, the sun was just beginning to slip behind the river.  With patience and persistence, we saw the magnificent results of another day, reflections above and below the water line.

"As the Sun Slips Behind the Loire River", 18"x24" unframed palette knife oil painting on canvas panel, $865 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

Thanks for viewing my art!  Greetings from Fort Collins, Colorado
