"Moonlight Mountain Triptych" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

Quite a task, this painting on glass.  It took forever to compose and then execute but I'm very satisfied, happy, with the results.  The photos don't do it just but then this is the sort of artwork best seen in person, I guess.

"Moonlight Mountain Triptych",10"x22" painting on glass (measured edge to edge glass) in frame shown, $675 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, click button below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

"Mysterious Rocky Mountain Sunset" by Karla Nolan framed painting on glass

Well, this is a mysterious art post!  I haven't quite decided what exactly is occurring in the sky of this painting on glass, so decided to "go with the flow, the mystery of it all".  I see many things happening in this sunset and I hope that you do, also.  I see no sense in defining everything that happens with these crazy glass paints!

"Mysterious Rocky Mountain Sunset", 11"x"14" framed painting on glass (measured edge to edge glass), $450 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, click button below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

"Magenta in the Sky" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

Vibrant colors in the sky for this miniature painting on glass, sold framed as shown!  Magenta was the "in" color when I lived outside of St. Louis in the 1960's, I remember that as if it were yesterday.  I convinced my mother to buy me an "outfit" in that bright, hot color, but I felt conspicuous in it, as it was a new hue for me.  I mainly lived in red.  It doesn't seem that long ago to me, I know that decades have past, but I still like the magenta tones in the skies when I see them!

"Magenta in the Sky", 5"x5" framed painting on glass (measured edge to edge glass), $100 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, click button below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

"Blues Skies" by Karla Nolan, 36"x36" unframed palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas

Well, this is a biggie -- 3 feet by 3 feet, painted primarily in blue hues.  Hence, the name.  The clouds in Colorado are so beautiful, so numerous with the varying shades of the blues in the background, they light up everything!  Ready to hang, no need to frame unless you want to.

"Blues Skies", 36"x36" unframed palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas, $1295 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"As the Sun Slips Behind the Loire River" by Karla Nolan, unframed palette knife oil painting

A number of years ago my husband and I traveled through the Loire Valley to visit Amboise.  We settled in to our tiny room, rested from the ordeals of the car travel, and prepared to dine.  As we were walking towards our restaurant, the sun was just beginning to slip behind the river.  With patience and persistence, we saw the magnificent results of another day, reflections above and below the water line.

"Awa'awapuhi Trail, Kauai, Where Sky Meets Ocean" by Karla Nolan, 11"x14" unframed palette knife oil painting

I just recently rediscovered this artwork in my husband's office (aha!) and decided to post it here today because I finally realized that I was proud of how it turned out.  That could sound strange, I suppose, but sometimes when I attack the loaded palette knife to the panel, I'm not sure whether I will like the completed product.  That was the case here.  This was painted in 2009 after we had gone to Kauai and hiked the said trail in the title.  It was a form of torture both up and down that trail because it was tedious in both aspects.  Going down was dangerous, the fear of slipping and falling.  Returning to the top was agonizing because it was so steep and seemingly never ending.  Either way, here it is for you gaze upon, I hope you enjoy that incredible view!  Wow!

"Crackling Sky" by Karla Nolan, unframed miniature palette knife oil painting

I can almost smell it in the air, springtime is around the corner, although you may not believe it today in my part of the woods -- it's gray and cloudy but warmer than it has been -- I'm just waiting for the sky to open up with rain, get a few bolts of lightning up there, roar of thunder.  Of course, I am jumping the gun, the official date is three weeks away for the season change and here in Colorado, the real date may as well be May.  I am such a dreamer!  (The top photo is the original painting, the bottom is an example of it framed.)

"Sand and Surf at Second Beach (RI)" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

I have a dear friend who lives in Middletown, Rhode Island, right next to Newport.  She is so fortunate to have a house right around the corner from this particular beach, "Second Beach".  Am I envious?  You bet I am!  Every day she can go to the beach and listen to the pounding surf, view the changing skies, the ebb and flow of the waters.  There are fewer experiences more soothing than the sound and feel of the ocean.  I think I'm due for another visit!

"Lightning From the Heavens" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

The power of Mother Nature is enormous.  Looking above to the skies, there are multiple layers of energy and color, simultaneously beckoning to our eyes -- just take a look, realize how huge the skies are, the atmosphere above, the earth below.  Sky paintings are easily among my favorites to paint.  As a friend of mine from Virginia says:  "Pow! Zap! Kaboom!"  I say hooray for the elements...they are a blast to work with!
