Original Puma Wildlife Painting "HIGH DESERT PUMA" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

It's rare to see a mountain lion close to town. Occasionally, though, one will be spotted on the Colorado National Monument adjacent to our house. So beautiful, sleek, graceful, and powerful!!

Original Wildlife Landscape Painting With Birds "Sunset Speaks to Sandhills" by Colorado Western Landscape Painter Nancee Jean Busse

Bosque del Apache continues to inspire me. The sandhill cranes and snow geese rarely move alone. They move constantly, from sunrise to sunset, in groups of hundreds. Their calls fill the cold December air. At sunset they flock onto the waterways, where they will spend the night, safe from predators.

Original Raven Wildlife Painting "Violet-Contemplates-Mortality" by Colorado Western Landscape Painter Nancee Jean Busse

Another painting in the wildlife series I've been working on. This is a small 9x12 study of one of our resident ravens. I've been wondering about the raven we relinquished to DOW for rehabilitation, so I needed to paint a raven. This study depicts one of the ravens perched on the loading chute of the old corral out back. It's filled with the startling blue of a Colorado summer sky, which is reflected off of most surfaces. It's titled "Violet Contemplates Mortality,"

Raven Bird Art Painting "Violet" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

This is a portrait of one of my favorite ravens. We've had a pair hanging around the house for years. In the spring of 2013 our pair had a very successful reproductive season. They showed up in May with 5 fledglings!! One of the fledglings was bolder, more curious, and more raucous than the rest of the brood. All summer she visited me in my studio daily. I named her Violet. By the end of September, all of the fledglings were gone and we were back to our usual pair. I hope Violet is fine and doing well.

Original Colorado Landscape Pastel Painting "34 Road Canal" by Colorado Western Landscape Painter Nancee Jean Busse

Grand Junction, Colorado is surrounded by spectacular views. Walking a canal bank east of town, I looked north toward the Bookcliffs and took the reference photo which inspired this landscape. This piece won first place professional class at the 23rd Annual Peach Blossom Art Show in Palisade, Colorado.
