Media Geologic Abstract "Petroglyphs", © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Creative Floating" , 24x18 inches, by Carol Nelson

This painting features a textured surface on which a limited palette of colors were floated and allowed to mingle in a random fashion.  The symbols in the lower left are actually the printed letters of the word CREATE.  They are cut up and arranged in an abstract design.

Inspiration for this painting came from a new palette I'm working with in my kitchen redesign.

These Golden colors are Van Dyke brown, black, white, Titan Buff fluid acrylic, and Sepia high flow acrylic.  Prior to adding paint, the surface was textured using Alex Flex flexible spackling from Home Depot.  The texture influences some of the paint flow in unexpected ways.

Mixed Media Abstract Landscape Collage, "Singing Hills" by Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Singing Hills" mixed media collage landscape by Carol Nelson

detail

This is a demo painting I started in my recent workshop at Camp McDowell in Alabama.

It has several kinds of paper, but the unusual detail shows the glass beads made in the Czech Republic, and a strip of copper metal with copper tacks.

Mixed Media Abstract Acrylic Painting, "Revealed" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

Mixed media abstract, "Revealed" by Carol Nelson

This heavily textured abstract is painted on 140 lb watercolor paper which is then mounted on an MDF panel. The panel has been painted to compliment the colors in the painting.

This is another mixed media collage featuring the air dry clay leaves that I teach students in my mixed media workshops.

Abstract Mixed Media Painting "Having Fun" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

"Having Fun" 24x24 triptych by Carol Nelson

The title of this piece is what I was doing in my studio. I found these three canvases, and decided I would just play around with some heavy body acrylics and HAVE FUN.

Of course, it wasn't all fun. I revised them several times before I was happy with them.

I am proud of myself for adding the blue passages because that's one color that doesn't show up in my work very often.

For more information about this triptych, click here to go to my website.

Mixed Media Abstract Art Painting "Gemstone 29" by Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Gemstone 29" by Carol Nelson

This painting was a demo at my recent Jacksonville, FL, workshop. For more information about this painting, click here to go to my website.
