Modeling paste and fabrics were applied to a bare panel with black gesso. Using short paint (less oiley) a dry, lightly loaded brush is gently stroked across the textured surface using the flat surface of the brush, not the tip. If a gentle enough touch is used, the black under-painting will remain in the crevasses of the texture.
