Colorful Mixed Media Abstract Art Painting "Gemstone 25" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

Mixed media abstract,  "Gemstone 25" by Carol Nelson

This is another in my Gemstone series. I did this one as a demo in my recent class at Art&Soul in Minneapolis.

What's unusual about this one is that I poured a layer of Golden's Self Leveling Clear Gel over it as a finishing coat. The Clear Gel dries crystal clear and really enhances the colors.

The finish is not as hard as a layer of resin would be, but it is a good substitute. I added a little water to the Clear Gel to thin it a little.

You've been asking for this for years!

Finally, I made an instructional video that you can purchase through Craftsy.com.

The video will become available on June 13, 2016.

Before the launch on the 13th, we will have a giveaway in the next

couple weeks to give readers a chance to win a free class!

a chance to win the class for free.  A random winner will be

chosen on June 13th.

So many people around the world (literally) write me saying they

would love to attend one of my workshops, but they live too far

away to attend one.

This video is my approach to creating with mixed media.  The

information in it is like attending a 3-4 day workshop with me.

It's not just a bunch of techniques either, there is instruction

on how I actually use these techniques in creating an abstract

composition.

Holes in Tyvek - it's a good thing.

Here I am working on the Craftsy set.  Those of you who have seen me work know that I am not this neat and tidy.  I have stuff all over the place, but my producer wanted to keep everything clean and organized.

Some examples of work that I will be discussing in the video.
